Dear Flutists,
I wrote a short waltz for flute and guitar titled "Good Thoughts." (Steve Cotter on guitar). It's on www.youtube.com/libbiejosnyder
I also finished a Beatles EP, titled "Reflections, A Beatles Tribute." Three tracks with flute & voice and three that are flute trios. You can hear samples at www.libbiejo.com and download digitally through CD Baby, I-Tunes, or on my website. CD's are available on my website through PayPal.
Someone asked me how I started improvising since I was classically trained in the beginning of my adventure in the world of music. When I was in middle school, my parents visited my uncle in New York. At that time he was an agent with the Gail Agency, the celebrated music agency that predated Norman Granz. They came home with two LPs -- "Charlie Parker With Strings" and an Erroll Garner LP. I went crazy! I was never the same after that, and that is another story. Soon after that, one of my boyfriends brought me Stan Kenton's "Artistry In Rhythm" I fell madly in love with that boyfriend, and, I'm not the first jazz fan that fell in love with someone who brought them a jazz record. (That is also another story.)
After I moved to Los Angeles, I fell happily into the hippie lifestyle and started playing with acoustic bands in the parks. I played with a band "Silverlake" (I think there were many "Silverlake" bands) and we had adoring fans who threw us notes on stage with joints wrapped inside. Gas was about 25 cents a gallon, rent was cheap, and we were out there expressing outselves. That's where I started improvising --the pop music of the 60's and 70's.

Hi Libbie Jo,
Welcome to LA Flute Network! I'm glad you joined. It would be great if you could add your events and write about something too. Do you think I should add a sub-category under Forums for jazz flute? I was thinking it might be of interest.
Best,
Ruth
